What about $10,000 bought.
The homeowners wanted a bathroom that looked and worked like new without paying for a custom remodel. The layout stayed exactly as it was, and that is where the savings start: no plumbing or electrical moved, no walls changed.
Everything else came out: the old one-piece fiberglass tub-shower, the vanity, the toilet and the flooring. The subfloor at the tub was water-stained, so a small section was repaired before anything new went in. Then a new tub and surround, drywall patching and texture, Sherwin-Williams paint, new underlayment and sheet vinyl flooring, and a new vanity with a solid-surface top, faucet, mirror and toilet.
All-in, labor and materials, it came to about $10,000 in 2020. With budget materials we can still do the same scope for about that today. Most homeowners choose a few upgrades, like a new shower valve or nicer cabinets, which usually puts a bathroom like this at $12,000–$14,000.
