Northwest weather is hard on outdoor wood. Decks gray out, boards cup, and posts rot where they meet the ground, usually long before anything looks dangerous.
CRM Services repairs, restains and builds decks and fences across Vancouver and Clark County. On a repair, we find what is actually failing first: the boards, the framing, or the posts. You pay to fix the real problem, not to replace what is still sound.
New decks come at every level. Budget builds use pressure-treated 2x6 decking, also called Sunwood. Mid-grade builds use composite decking from Trex and TimberTech. At the high end, we install and maintain exotic hardwoods like Ipe, Tigerwood and other Brazilian hardwoods. Railings can be custom built or pre-fab, and stairs are part of the build. Permits and engineered plans are available.
For fences, we prefer metal posts, and we build everything from standard cedar board fences and pre-fab panels to custom high-end composite and modern designs, gates included. When a fence just has rotted posts, we can replace the posts and rehang the panels you already have.
Restains get cleaned, prepped and masked first, then finished with Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck. Every job gets a line-item estimate before work starts.
Most decks don't need replacing. They need the rot found early and the wood sealed on schedule.
Our process
On-Site Look
We walk the deck or fence line with you and see what you're dealing with: boards, railings, framing, posts, and the finish.
Find What's Failing
We probe for soft wood and check the framing and posts, so the estimate covers the real problem and nothing that's still sound.
Line-Item Estimate
You get a detailed, line-item estimate before any work starts. For new decks, that includes permits and engineered plans when the project needs them.
Repair, Build or Stain
Rotted material comes out and gets replaced, new decks get built to plan, and stain jobs get cleaned, prepped and masked before the finish goes on.

Can you repair my deck instead of replacing it?+
Often, yes. A lot of decks that look worn out just have rotted boards, a few bad joists, or failing posts, with sound framing everywhere else. We find what's actually failing and quote the repair, so you only replace what needs it.
What decking materials do you build with?+
Every level. Budget decks use pressure-treated 2x6 decking, also called Sunwood. Mid-grade decks use composite decking from Trex and TimberTech. For the high end, we install exotic hardwoods like Ipe, Tigerwood and other Brazilian hardwoods, and we maintain them too. Railings can be custom built or pre-fab.
Can you replace rotted fence posts without building a new fence?+
Yes. If the panels are still in good shape, we can pull the rotted posts, set new ones and rehang your existing panels. That's what we did on a leaning side-yard fence in Portland: new posts, same fence, exactly what the client asked for.
What kind of fences do you build?+
Standard cedar board fences, pre-fab panels, and custom high-end composite and modern designs, with gates to match. We prefer to set fences on metal posts.
Do you handle permits for new decks?+
Yes. Permits and engineered plans are available for new deck builds. We'll tell you up front what your project needs and include it in the estimate.
What stain do you use on decks?+
Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck. Before it goes on, we clean and prep the wood and mask off the house, posts and anything else that shouldn't get stained.
How often should I restain my deck?+
It depends on how much sun and rain the deck takes and how the last finish has held up. When the wood starts graying or water stops beading on the surface, it's time. We'll look at the finish and tell you honestly whether it needs a restain yet.
How much does deck repair or staining cost?+
It depends on the size of the deck, what's failing underneath, and the materials. We don't guess: we look at the deck in person and give you a free, line-item estimate before any work starts.
